I am a big believer in doing things that make you happy, even when (and perhaps especially when) you are in a bit of a slump. This might be treating yourself to a good coffee or new lipstick, it might be sitting out in the sunshine with your favourite book, rewatching a film you know you enjoy, or meeting up with friends who make you laugh.
I've seen a few comments about how the idea of 'choosing happiness' is demeaning to a person with depression or anxiety, and suggests that they can decide to change their mood and how they feel. However, I think choosing happiness isn't about forcing it; its not about ignoring how you feel and pretending you aren't unhappy or anxious, it's about acknowledging that and encouraging yourself to find happiness in little things which then lighten your mood, even if only temporarily. It's about finding little sparks of light in the dark, and then hopefully over time these sparks will ignite, and the darkness will be (mainly) gone.
