The Poundshop has been on my radar for a while, I follow them on Twitter and have seen a few people who had provided them with work and designs to sell but I'd never really looked into it as the shop had never been in my area. However, when I saw the Poundshop had opened an online shop for a limited time to coincide with their appearance on Poundshop Wars on the BBC, I had a little look.
Now, I love a poundshop, I get so much stuff from them; from market stall props, toothpaste, snacks - every time I go in I spend. So a poundshop that was based around good design and handmade crafts was like heaven on earth to me!
So obviously, I made a little purchase from the Poundshop online. They have 3 different categories, £1,£3 and £5 (I bought from the two cheaper categories) but everything I would pay much more for! There is absolutely no tat to be seen and you don't have to search through rubbish to find the treasure; it's all treasure!

I got quite a few bits, but I was most excited by the stationery. I got two Ding Ding £1 A5 clipboards, a Ding Ding £1 ruler, a £1 rolled paper pencil and a £3 Sparrow and Wolf gold and kraft notebook, which are all super useful, but one of the clipboards and and the ruler will be used as photography props, and I might get a little postcard to display on the spare clipboard and use it as an alternative to a frame.
I also got a few fun bits (not that stationery isn't fun!)... I went for a knitted rocket brooch, a knitted bumblebee magnet, a knitted lion head brooch and a gold animal placeholder (I have no use for it, but I love it). All of these were £1, which is crazy as they are so good! The lion even has little ears behind his mane!
I think things like the Poundshop are great, as they open up the world of handmade and small business to a new audience and also are a bit of a novelty that encourage press attention which can only be good for the creative community!
The Poundshop has now closed its online store, but is still going strong as a pop up shop in different areas all over the world. I would definitely recommend taking a trip when it's near you if possible!
